OAPI stands for Organisation Africaine de la Propriรฉtรฉ Intellectuelle for French-speaking African Countries.
The member countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoro Islands, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo.

Filing Trademark Application in OAPI
Our Trademark Attorney, will check whether the trademark to be registered is entitled for protection in OAPI. Once the Trademark is checked, the competent Trademark Attorney, will then File and prosecute the Trademark and Service Mark applications with OAPI Trademarks Registry.
We will require the following information and documents to register trademark in OAPI;
- Original Power of Attorney โSimply signed. NO NOTARIZATION OR LEGALIZATION IS REQUIRED.
- The name, physical address and nationality of the applicant.
- Sample of the mark, even for word mark
- A list of the goods/services and the classes pertaining thereto
- Original priority document (if applicable).
- Colors to be claimed with pantone code (if applicable)
OAPI follows the International Classification of Goods, Multiclass application is allowed, up to Three Classes of Goods and/or Services, if the Trademark is to be registered in more than one class;
Once filed, the Trademark application shall be published and the opposition period is within six (6) months following publication.
Registration and Renewal
The Trademark is registered for the first 10 years from the filing date, and The Trademark registration is renewable indefinitely for periods of 10 years upon each renewal. The trademark renewal can be requested during the grace period of four (4) months after expiration, upon payment of a late renewal fee.
The Trademark registration will be subject to cancellation actions based on lack of use, if it is not used for more than five years (5)after registration of the trademark, in any member state.
